Brief Description : A chance is available to join the kitchen brigade at Serco as an apprentice chef.

 

Qualifications Required : Experience is not needed, however if you do have experience of working in a kitchen/restaurant environment this would be useful.
No formal qualifications are required however maths and English will be assessed as part of the interview process.
Vacancy Detail : While training and learning craft skills you will help under the guidance of the small but friendly team of chefs help to produce the required meals for up to 1232 offenders.

The main aim of the post holder is to assist in the production of food for catering operation and staff bistro, ensuring consistently high standards are adhered to in all aspects of the job.

Main duties will include (but are not limited to)
• Taking part and completing a Level 2 qualification in catering
• Assisting the senior kitchen team in smooth running of the department
• Delivering and providing meals to prison staff and prisoners
• Prepping ingredients for meal service
• Plating up and presenting dishes
• Working in an efficient manner to adhere to time sensitive duties
• Cleaning work station throughout your shift and end of service
• Working in a safe manner at all times.

You will also have the chance to learn about all the required paperwork and records required for the food safety management system and HACCP.
Number of Positions Available : 2
Working Week : Hours would be 40 p/wk, to include a shift pattern of working every second weekend and early shifts
Salary : £288.46 Per Week

Training to be Provided : Commis Chef apprenticeship including Functional Skills Maths (Level 1), Functional Skills English (Level 1)
Other Information : Due to this post being based in a Prison Facility applicants must be age 18 and over.
Applicants who are successful will need to have a DBS check complete for an offer of employment.
Things to consider : The post will involve direct contact with the prisoners so an awareness of personal safety and safety of others will be part of your training which is a good personal life skill to develop not only for work but for personal safety.
